A good friend of mine sent me a link to Steve Elfrink’s podcast discussion on the PSIP model (Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy) and I listened with increasing interest on what was being discussed. In the dialogue Steve and the moderator mentioned a PSIP white paper that explained in greater detail the science behind the model. As what was discussed in the podcast really resonated with me, I looked up the paper and read it in earnestness. Similar to Steve’s story, I too was on a lifelong search as to why I was feeling chronically depressed, suffering from addictions, and disconnected from life. The podcast and paper prompted me to reach out to Steve for insight and hopes for healing. After our phone conversations, Steve and I felt that I might benefit from the PSIP work, so I decided to travel to Oregon to experience PSIP sessions. That decision was without a doubt one of the most important decisions of my life. I tend to be somewhat skeptical in general, and even after doing all the research that I had, I entered the process with a heightened sense of caution as I didn’t want to have my hopes dashed by another new “healing modality”. That skepticism has been replaced with a belief in the PSIP model and its effectiveness in accessing deeply held trauma in a way that will have transformative effects on the field of mental health. While I now have a deep conviction in the model, I know I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what I have if it weren’t for Steve’s effective guidance and mastery of the process. His authenticity, calm demeanor, patience, reassuring manner, and his care and concern for my well-being was something I hadn’t experienced before. I also deeply respect Steve’s journey to get to where he is today. He has an incredible depth of knowledge (much of it garnered through his own experience) and is a leading expert in this field. Steve has truly “walked the walk” and now wants to share the healing that he has experienced with others who are searching. I could not recommend Steve more highly. If someone would have told me what I was going to experience during the sessions, I never would have believed them, but after having gone through it and witnessing it firsthand, I am truly amazed. The work is not easy, but it is transformative. While I know this is a journey, I can honestly say for the first time in my life I have a new sense of hope and a feeling of well-being. I have been a friend and colleague of Steve Elfrink ever since I met him in 2010 over 12 years ago. His résumé well summarizes his experience in marketing, education, and organizing conferences in the psychedelic space. He has also worked with various therapists in developing and conducting psychedelic therapeutic protocols. He is the founder of OmTerra, a nonprofit dedicated to psychedelic education. Under that banner he organized several psychedelic conferences in Wisconsin during the 2010s and I presented at several of them. The information summarized in the résumé he supplied is testimony to his professional qualifications. But from a personal point of view, as his friend as well as his colleague, I can attest to his character, his dedication to psychedelic therapy, and to his passion for this work and his compassion as a psychedelic therapist.

I wanted to express my sincerest gratitude for this week. I've learned more about my body in the past 4 days than I have in the past 5 years working with plant medicine. Thank you for holding space and allowing me to feel safe enough for my body to express itself. You're one of the few people in this medicine space that I feel is truly selflessly in service and has the most integrity with this kind of work. I am feeling more connected to my body than before. I really believe this is the work I'm meant to be doing with my body and I look forward to our future sessions together.

I believe I found one in a million in Steve Elfrink after years of struggle working with multiple therapists, multiple therapeutic approaches and Western Medicine’s pharmaceutical ’fixes’; all essentially useless. The problem unbeknownst to me (or the practitioners I sought help from) was none of these approaches adequately addressed the real issues; childhood trauma and deep wounds due to sexual abuse and the emotional abuse/neglect inflicted by a narcissistic mother who "loved" only when I performed to her exacting demand of perfection. I felt some trepidation working with a man as my sexual assailant was a man, but Steve is an extremely gifted, knowledgeable, empathetic, and tender human. He gets it, HE GETS IT! Steve is guiding me in my path to healing and reclaiming myself and my life. I am grateful that the Universe led me to him.

My time with Steve has been a combination of professional, family, friend and personal growth (health). I have experienced many holistic healing systems in my life including body work, breath work, meditation, yoga, chiropractic, dietary cleansing, spiritual journeys, etc. All have been impactful in my soul's journey towards full expression. When I met Steve and he introduced the idea of psychedelics as a path of deep healing, I was very resistant to such healing work due to the "drugless" ways of a natural chiropractor. Steve's gentle, knowledgeable, kind, patient and persistent approach allowed me to accept this powerful, safe and direct path to my inner world. The psychedelic conferences he organized in Viroqua, WI were very well attended (sold out) and life changing events for myself and many other people. When I want to share the idea of psychedelics with colleagues and friends, I always first introduce or refer them to Steve Elfrink because I TRUST he will treat each person with an open heart and experienced mind.

Steve's professionalism in conducting medicine ceremonies instilled a sense of safety for me. His openness, kindness, and availability, making time for anyone needing to talk, were deeply appreciated. Steve listens and genuinely cares for participants in group work, a crucial aspect during ceremonial events. The assurance that we were in good hands fostered a positive and secure atmosphere for both me and the entire group.

Steve introduced me to a group that was facilitating plant medicine work. He was a core member and integral to the integrity of that group. They were instrumental in providing many, many people with much needed relief from the existential angst of internalized trauma. His willingness to be the outreach person to offer support post sitting so to help integrate the insights and offerings of the medicine I found humbling and gratifying. Gratifying in that it is inspiring to know that there is someone in the world of this work that understands the importance of support and integration. Steve Elfrink walks the path of medicine work, lives the path of medicine work. And personally, I do not see his relationship to this work as a passion or an interest, It is a Way.

Steve is the kind of guy who will make a multimedia presentation in front of a stacked house look like a piece of cake and then the very next minute will drop in with you, one on one, with such a strength of presence, attunement and kindness.

What I also always appreciated about Steve is his ability to fully show up as a kind, caring and compassionate man. His heart and soul are in this work.
